Tourists who
have heard about the beautiful community flock to look, to taste
the food served there and sometimes spend the night in one of the
lovely hotels overlooking the bay.
Sausalito was
named by 18th century Spanish explorers for the "little willow"
trees (Saucelito) found in abundance, on the banks of its streams.
Incorporated in 1893, Sausalito is two and one half miles in size.
Located 22 miles from the San Francisco Airport and 45 miles from
Wine Country, Sausalito is the gateway to beautiful coastal Highway
1 that twists and winds north atop the rugged and spectacular cliffs
overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Sausalito is a perfect place to dine,
explore and spend time shopping in the cute boutiques.
Special events
throughout the year include Opening Day on the Bay in the spring,
summer concerts such as Jazz/Blues by the Bay and Arias in the Afternoon,
fall festivities such as Floating Homes Showcase Tour and Doggy
Day and the winter celebration known as Winterland Festival. (see

As one of the
San Francisco small hotels, there are many things
to do and see in the vicinity of Mill Valley Travelodge. San Francisco
(Marin County), spectacular views from Mill Valley retreat just
15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Two main trails lead
from the house down the north side of the ridge to downtown Mill
Valley. The trails on the west side lead to the old gravity railroad
grade to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. The trails on the south side
lead down to Muir Woods.
Muir Beach is
only ten minutes away and Stinson Beach is 17 minutes away. Downtown
Mill Valley is five minutes away and is a very charming and delightful
town with shops, multiple restaurants, theaters, coffee shops, a
terrific library and community center, parks and playgrounds.
Napa and Sonoma
County wine regions are about an hour away. Other upscale Marin
County towns like Sausalito, Belvedere, Tiburon, Larkspur, and San
Anselmo are also just minutes away from Mill Valley. Berkeley and
Oakland are about 45 minutes away.
