Just north of
Mill Valley is Mount Tamalpais State Park, which contains 6,300
acres of redwood groves, oak woodlands and a breathtaking view from
its’ 2,571-foot peak. Visitors can see the Marin County hills, the
city of San Francisco and the Bay, the Farallon Islands 25 miles
out to sea, and on some occasions, even the snow-covered mountains
of the Sierra Nevada. There are fifty miles of hiking trails in
the park that connect to a larger, 200-mile-long trail system. The
park also has picnic areas and a visitor center located at the East
Peak Summit.
