Corte
Madera is known as one of the "Twin Cities" along with
Larkspur, its next door neighbor that shares contract services such
as fire and police protection. Known also as The Village of Corte
Madera, it was incorporated in 1916 with its name translated as
"cut wood" in Spanish. An historic village square, a 22-acre park
with tennis courts, two playgrounds, recreational equipment and
numerous hiking and biking paths make this an ideal setting for
those seeking the best of the country and city combined.
Only
12 miles from San Francisco tucked away in Marin countryside, Corte
Madera occupies an area of four square miles of land, plus surrounding
water tidelands. Beautiful Mt. Tamalpais to the west. East Corte
Madera is a flat, mostly ranch-style home area, including
some properties that back up on the bay or Ring Mountain, an ancient
Miwok site. Tamalpais Drive follows the west side of town up past
the recreation center and City Hall to the base of Christmas Tree
Hill. Extending from the San Francisco Bay on the east side of Highway
101 to Mt. Tamalpais on the west, Corte Madera offers some of the
most beautiful vistas in the western United States. It is nestled
between San Francisco and Napa's wine country in Marin County, one
of the most beautiful counties in the nation. Muir Woods National
Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate Bridge,
Sausalito and Napa and Sonoma wineries are all within a short drive.
For
travelers, there's ample shopping in Corte Madera and even more
in nearby San Francisco. Shopping includes Corte Madera Certified
Farmers' Market every Wednesday from 1 to 6 p.m. Held in the shopping
mall parking lot, locally grown, and organic produce, breads, flowers
and fresh items from the fields are sold.
Year
round activities are offered through the parks and recreation department
of the city. Free summer concerts, a movie in the park, farmer's
market, hiking, bicycling, seaplane rides and much more is in store
for those seeking a location near San Francisco, Marin and Napa.
Being one of the hotels San Francisco, Mill Valley
Travelodge is an ideal place to stay to visit Corte Madira and other
places surrounding Mill Valley.
